About the Program:
With a celebrated team of teachers, a creative outdoor classroom that weaves together the forest, the lake, and the farm, Beer Sheva Park is truly a hidden gem. In our outdoor classroom your little one will learn with the seasons. During the spring and summer, they will plant, grow and eat from the urban farm and ramble through a forest full of hidden wonders. In the fall, children will collect and count the colorful tree leaves and build piles and forts to play in. And in the winter, your little one will stay warm through active games and math and reading rich adventures.
Unique to this park is the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands neighboring our classroom. With teachers passionate about farming & nutrition, your child will spend several days per week learning how to plant and grow their own vegetables. They will help to nurture and feed the plants, harvest herbs for tea, and soak in the vast learning opportunities of this deliciously edible space.
As a park that is connected to other green spaces your child will also go on field trips. They may visit the beaches of Lake Washington, explore the wetlands, or find new trees for climbing in the neighboring forest.
Throughout these adventures your preschooler will engage with symbols, letters and ideas and conduct their own experiments – testing the logic and possibilities of the natural world. Kindergarten readiness skills are woven into your child’s play through the use of the evidence based HighScope curriculum. With an attentive adult close at hand, you child will engage with books, hear stories, and play with letters and language to make words and form ideas. They will play with quantities and numbers, and learn the relationship between symbols and ideas. And in a forest laboratory they will develop curiosity, creativity, and grit through hands on science and play in the great outdoors. For more information watch this Q13 Fox News interview of Tiny Trees teachers.
Special effort is made to create a culturally rich and responsive classroom environment. Located in one of the most linguistically diverse zip codes in the country, Beer Sheva presents ample opportunities to explore language, history and culture with teachers and volunteers who reflect the vibrant community of SE Seattle.
