About the Program:
Our program is a 3 year arc, beginning with a transitional experience for toddlers and culminating in the Pre-K experience.
Room 1 (2-3 years) In the first year of the cycle, parents are supported in helping their child transition slowly into the school experience in a manner that establishes a sense of safety and trust in the teachers and environment, and in the parents’ dependability to return and be an anchor for them as they explore new boundaries and horizons.
Room 1 - Extended Day (2-3 years) For families seeking a full day program, this may be the perfect fit! The extended day program allows children in the Room 1 class to attend a longer school day. Children that stay for the extended day will be offered a nap/rest time after lunch. The extended Room 1 day ends at 2:30 pm with our Room 2 and Room 3 classes.
Room 2 (3-4 years) Graduating from the punctuated transitional experience, we now move into a full day, 5 day-a-week school experience. Using a diversified spectrum of experiences and materials to facilitate multi-faceted expression, the children are learning to operate independently in the classroom and share cooperative experiences with others, laying the foundations for critical thinking, problem solving and fundamental communication.
Room 3 (4-5 years) Building on the foundations of the previous year, we are now readying the children for Kindergarten and beyond. Using in-depth projects, investigations and life-skills experiences, we lay the building blocks to a life-long educational journey, focusing on the development of autonomy, independent theory-building, collaboration and enhanced communication abilities.
Toilet Independence Requirements:
Your child does not have to be potty trained to attend The Sunshine Shack. Children become ready to use the toilet at different ages and in their own time. We wish to respect each child’s development. Teachers and parents will work together to facilitate toilet learning.
We ask that when your child is in the process of learning to use the toilet, you bring extra underwear and several extra changes of clothes. Also, please dress your child in clothes that are easy for them to manage getting on and off. These clothes should be elastic band tops of pants, shorts, and skirts and nothing tight with difficult buttons or zippers. NO “skinny jeans”.
