About the Program:
We are committed to providing the best learning experience in an environment that welcomes and stimulates growth and creativity.
We believe that by combining theories from the Montessori and Reggio Emilia Philosophies, we are able to provide your child with a well-rounded and self-directed curriculum.
We always encourage a spirit of fun exploration and purposeful play. It is our goal to have each child leave the school with a love for learning.
The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy developed by Loris Malaguzzi and the parents of the villages around Reggio Emilia, Italy after WWII. After such a destructive event, people believed that children were in need of a new way of learning. It is believed that children are “bearers of knowledge” and should be encouraged to share their thought and ideas. The Reggio Emilia philosophy is based upon the following set of principles:
children must have some control over the direction of their learning;
· children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, and observing
· children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the works that children must be allowed to explore
· children must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves
The aim of this approach is to teach children how they can be made useful in everyday life. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration in a supportive and enriching environment.
The Montessori Method, developed by Maria Montessori, is a child-centered approach to learning. Our Montessori-structured mornings at Green Sprout Preschool include multiage groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity. The teacher, child and environment create a learning triangle. The teacher prepares the classroom in a way that encourages independence, discovery, freedom within limits, and a sense of order.. Each child, through individual choice, has the ability to decide what in the environment they wish to make use of to further develop him or herself. The teacher is always available when support or guidance is needed.
Our guides at Green Sprout Preschool are trained to only use positive methods of discipline and guidance to ensure that our students are developing their own personal self-esteem, self-control, and self-direction.
The specific methods of discipline and guidance practiced at Green Sprout Preschool include praise and encouragement of good behavior, redirection of negative behavior using positive statements, daily foreshadowing of behavior expectations daily through the use of clear, positive statements, and the practice of emotion-coaching.
Any discipline that is used at Green Sprout Preschool is individualized and consistent for each child, appropriate to the child’s level of understanding, and directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control.
Toilet Independence Requirements:
If there are specific routines that are working for you at home, please communicate them with your guides so that we may make the toilet learning and practicing at school consistent with what is practiced at home.
